Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Double chin liposuction is a procedure performed under local anesthesia and is not overly painful. Before the procedure, you’ll receive pain-relief tablets, which you will continue taking for a few days afterward. Bruising is not common, though the likelihood varies from person to person. Swelling tends to last the longest, often more than 10 days. During this period, it’s important to wear a compression bandage to reduce swelling. The effects of liposuction are permanent as long as the patient maintains a stable body weight after the procedure. However, one should be aware that aging cannot be stopped and that fat and excess skin may accumulate again over time.
This procedure uses focused ultrasound energy to tighten tissue in the skin and subcutaneous layer, resulting in firmer, tighter skin—whether under the chin, the brow area, cheeks, or other body parts. It is most effective for ideal candidates—those with mild to moderate skin laxity and smaller amounts of fat under the chin. Results are visible immediately, but the full effect is usually seen around 3 months later, as ultrasound therapy stimulates collagen and elastin production, which develops fully over time. For best results, repeat treatments are recommended.
The double chin is aesthetically concerning in two main scenarios: the typical double chin is composed mainly of fat tissue and disturbs the attractive, sharp jawline. With aging, especially in very slim individuals, a significant amount of excess skin can hang in bands from the lower jaw—known as a “turkey neck.” Both situations create an unflattering appearance of the neck. In the first case, it can be improved surgically with liposuction (VASER 4D liposuction, which also tightens the skin) or non-surgically with fat-dissolving injections. If the primary issue is excess skin, it can be corrected surgically through a neck lift or tightening procedure, or non-surgically with ultrasound energy using the Ultherapy device.
