Liposuction is not a method for weight loss

First, honestly: liposuction is not intended to help you "lose 10 kg". The foundation for that is still regular, appropriate nutrition and enough movement.

Liposuction makes sense when:

you have a normal or mildly increased body weight
you live relatively healthily, but stubborn fat deposits still remain in certain areas of the body
what bothers you is the shape of your body, not just the number on the scale

VASER liposuction is an advanced form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction, in which fat cells are first selectively loosened and emulsified with ultrasound, and then easily suctioned out. This allows more precise shaping of the silhouette and less damage to surrounding tissues compared with traditional liposuction.

Which body areas are most commonly treated with liposuction?

With VASER liposuction, we most commonly contour:

the abdomen and waist
the lumbar area and lower back
the hips and so-called "saddlebags"
the inner thighs and knees
the upper arms
the area under the chin and the transition from the jawline into the neck

In men, VASER is also used to treat gynaecomastia and to define the abdominal muscles, while in women it is often part of combined procedures such as abdominal contour correction or the Brazilian butt lift.

What is VASER liposuction?

VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) is a form of ultrasound-assisted liposuction. During the procedure:

a special solution is first introduced into the treatment area to reduce bleeding and make the fat easier to separate
we then use an ultrasound probe that selectively emulsifies and loosens the fat cells through a combination of vibration and ultrasound energy
the resulting "liquid" fat is removed by aspiration through small incisions

The advantage of VASER technology is that it acts mainly on fat cells, while the surrounding structures such as blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue remain relatively better preserved. This can mean more precise contouring, less bruising, and in some patients also quicker recovery compared with traditional liposuction.

If needed, the removed fat can also be used to enlarge or shape other areas, such as the buttocks or breasts.

Who is a suitable candidate for VASER liposuction?

VASER liposuction is most suitable for patients who:

have a stable body weight
are bothered by localised fat deposits that do not reduce with diet and exercise
do not have unrealistic expectations, this is not a "total transformation" overnight
do not have uncontrolled chronic illnesses
do not smoke or are willing to stop smoking in advance

During the consultation, we always assess the relationship between skin and fat. If there is too much skin and it is loose, liposuction alone is not enough. In such cases, we often consider combining it with Renuvion technology or with surgical removal of excess skin, for example abdominoplasty.

Renuvion®: tightening the skin from the inside

What is Renuvion®?

We present Renuvion® as an advanced, minimally invasive solution for skin tightening and firming, without classical surgical excision of excess skin. The goal is transformation with minimal traces of the procedure and without additional long scars.

The tightening effect is achieved through a combination of radiofrequency energy and helium plasma. Using a special cannula, we introduce this under the skin, where the subcutaneous tissue and collagen fibres are heated with very controlled thermal energy. At the same time, helium cools the surrounding area, which makes the effect precise and safe. The result is coagulation and tightening of the tissue, leading to firmer, tighter skin.

The FDA has approved Renuvion® for coagulation of subcutaneous soft tissues after liposuction in aesthetic body contouring and for improving the appearance of loose skin in certain areas, for example the neck and under the chin.

How do we combine VASER and Renuvion®?

In selected patients, the combination works like this:

with VASER liposuction, we selectively remove excess fat
with the Renuvion® cannula, we treat the areas under the skin where the skin is looser
the goal is that after fat removal, the skin adheres better to the new body contour

This combination is often used on:

the abdomen and waist
the lumbar area and back
the inner thighs
the upper arms
the area under the chin and the neck

It is important to understand that Renuvion® is not a substitute for classical surgical removal of excess skin in cases of very pronounced laxity. It is an alternative or an additional contour-defining tool in cases of mild to moderate skin laxity, without larger surgical incisions.

How does the procedure work?

Liposuction with VASER technology, with or without Renuvion®, is usually performed under general anaesthesia or, in selected cases, under analgosedation. The typical course is:

before the procedure, we carefully mark the areas to be treated
through small incisions of a few millimetres, we introduce the solution that prepares the fat tissue
we perform VASER ultrasound emulsification of fat and aspiration
if needed, we add Renuvion® under the skin for tightening
we close the incisions and apply compression garments

Depending on the extent of the procedure, this is usually done as an outpatient procedure or with a short hospital stay.

Recovery after VASER liposuction and Renuvion®

Recovery is individual, but the following usually applies:

for the first few days there is swelling, a feeling of tightness, and bruising
compression garments are worn for several weeks, according to the surgeon's instructions
most patients return to lighter work in 7 to 10 days
more intensive sport and heavier physical work are postponed for 4 to 6 weeks
the final result develops over several months, as the swelling settles and the skin adapts to the new contours

Patients receive precise written instructions about when they may drive, when they may start walking, when they may begin exercising, and how long to wear compression garments. At follow-up appointments, we monitor recovery and progress.

Risks and safety

Both VASER liposuction and Renuvion® are medical technologies, so they also carry potential risks:

bleeding, infection, seroma
contour irregularities, asymmetry
subcutaneous irregularities and uneven tightening
in the case of Renuvion, professional journals have described both successful results in improving loose skin and warnings about the need for very precise, safe use in order to avoid overheating of tissues

A practical example: "same weight, completely different silhouette"
